Pros and Cons
When picking a system for your space, ultimately the amount of money you have to spend is going to dictate what you’re able to purchase. However, above and beyond that, each wireless system is going to offer its own pros and cons. If you are looking for a system that has inexpensive options available and is reliable, Shure wireless microphones are the way to go. Shure is a microphone that you can pretty much turn on in any wireless environment and expect it’s going to work. The primary downside to Shure wireless microphones is that in order to achieve this level of stability, they often sacrifice audio quality, specifically in the higher frequencies of their microphones and wireless in-ear-monitors. Shure also offers you the ability to customize the sound of the transmitter by being able to replace the microphone capsule. They are compatible with almost any available capsule on the market.
On the other hand, Sennheiser’s wireless integrity isn’t as reliable. It oftentimes takes more work to get set up with a good wireless frequency for your environment. However, it sacrifices very little when it comes to the quality of the sound that is being transmitted. Once you get it set up properly there are rarely any integrity issues, and when you encounter interference it’s easy to fix. Price-wise, Sennheiser and Shure are going to cost about the same, with Sennheiser being a little cheaper on some models. Sennheiser is less customizable than Shure, as it only allows you to be able to use their capsules, Neumann capsules, and some DPA capsules.
The only microphone company that I have found which is able to boast a ridiculously high audio quality and a fantastic microphone integrity is Lectrosonics. The only big downside to Lectrosonics is that they’re super expensive. If your budget allows you to purchase one of these, don’t even think twice about getting anything else. Aside from their amazing build quality, RF integrity, and high quality sound, their support team is unbelievable and will be able to help you no matter the issue you are facing. Lectrosonics is very similar to Shure in the customization of their capsules and offers a wide variety of capsules that are compatible with their system.
